A Sea Change: Imagine a World Without Fish: Holiday shopping: plastic bags blow & Riverkeeper bottles

Did you know climate change affects the ocean? Some of the excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is dissolving into seawater. It's changing the pH, making seawater more acidic; some say "corrosive." This water actually dissolves the shells of certain shellfish and coral reefs. The effects are working their way up the food chain. A Sea Change is a new documentary about ocean acidification directed by Barbara Ettinger and produced by Sven Huseby of Niijii Films.

Holiday shopping: plastic bags blow & Riverkeeper bottles

Oh, my goodness. We are so excited. Last weekend a friend was wearing an awesome T-shirt reading: "Plastic bags blow." And on the back: "BYOB. Bring Your Own Bag." We sourced them at ResusableBags.com. American Apparel. Organic cotton. Water-based ink. $4.95! We usually refuse to wear or give T-shirts with a slogan (though we made an exception previously for our Gowanus Canal T-shirt with the alligator flexing its muscles). But we're getting these for half our Christmas list. And ourselves, naturally.

We're equally excited about these drinking bottles, discovered at the Riverkeeper table during the Waterfront Alliance Conference. Colors so sexy we don't know which we prefer. Food-grade stainless steel produced by Enviroproductsinc.com. And they read: "I bottle my own." $20. Notice the matching carabiner for clipping to your belt?
